Agar-agar, its boom in pet food

In the United States, it is estimated that over 53% of households have at least one pet and that number is growing. The production of pet food has grown as well, reaching more than 11 million tons in 2022 with sales revenues approaching $44 billion. 

There are also a growing number of owners who are concerned about and pay attention to the properties of the food their animals consume. Numerous studies confirm that labels indicating quality and natural ingredients influence 53% of people when buying food for their pets.  

This attention to nutritional value has led to a revolution in the pet food manufacturing industry focusing more on intestinal health and quality ingredients.  

One of the ingredients which is increasingly being incorporated in the production of these foods is agar.
